Tutorial Tuesday How To Spruce Up A Room with a NAME

This is a super fun craft to make for yourself...or a great way to keep your kids busy! And the end result? A beautiful way to add personal style to any room!

I purchased these letters at Michaels on sale! All the craft stores carry them, just watch for a coupon or a sale. Having four kids, it was tough to get ALL the letters I needed especially the vowels...but alas...SUCCESS!

The first task at hand was to paint the letters. I find with kids sponge brushes are by far the easiest, most cost effective and cleanest method. Craft paint is also readily available on sale OFTEN and those little paint dishes will save you a ton of clean up time - forget the paper plate method. TRUST ME!

Cheap plastic shower curtains make the very best drop cloths. Again, TRUST ME! Allow them to have at it for painting! Think FUN! Make sure they get the sides, since that will be visible...but remind them the back is, well...the back. Not necessary!

Once the letters are dry, you will want to give them a coat of  Crystal Clear. It protects the paint from chipping and gives the letters a nice glossy appearance. Very finished looking. I recommend doing this outside - for safety reasons...AND this stuff smells HORRID!

While they are drying, go choose your decorations. This is the fun part! Each of my kids chose completely different things that appealed to them! A craft or scrapbook store has plenty of great ideas for this step. We used stickers and sequins and glitter glue...oh my!

We laid out the letters and then put the paraphanalia (I do love that word!) on top to get an idea of how it looked...BEFORE...we adhered it. Understand? BEFORE! This is always a good choice. Especially with small people. Sometimes they need visual assistance. Maybe you need visual assistance, but who am I to judge? :)

Most important...again, let me remind you....allow this to be fun. For ALL of you!

The finished product! Aren't they adorable? Yes, I know we are missing an "E". There was a little mishap...the "E" decided to go sky diving and it proved very unsuccessful - rebellious little thing - she will be replaced!

Anneke did hers in a horse theme with stickers and decorations and Noah sponge painted his in Detroit Tigers colors and Michigan State colors...but those pics didn't turn out so well...photo fail!
