Silver and I have a wonderful relationship. I {{swoon}} at the sight of it. My hands instinctively reach for it. It's sleek shiny surface. The glimmering possibilities. The natural strength and beauty.
I love the feel of cold wire as it runs through my hands and bends around my fingers. Possibilities.
I love the weight of the sheet and watching the blade of my saw alter its shape. Imagination.
I love how the smell of metal lingers on my fingers giving me a tell tale sign that I, in fact, am a metal smith. Confidence.
Silver is the essence of my business. It is the proverbial "clay" in my hands. Becoming, at my gentle coaxing, a beautiful creation.
But lately silver and I have a strained relationship. I think cost, before creativity. I think scrap instead of surplus. My mindset has been forever changed.
I could take the time to give you a lot of information you will never need to know as to why the cost of silver is rising at such an alarming rate. Markets. Declining supply. Mining. But truly all you need to know is that it is rising. Albeit it did rally a bit this week and drop a slightly...and for that I am grateful. But the bottom line? It has impacted my business incredibly.
When I began designing jewelry almost 10 years ago silver was around $11 per ounce...last week it climbed close to $49 per ounce. YIKES!
Needless to say, I have never apologized for my prices. With each and every design I bring you my education, experience and creativity. I value my work. My customers value my work.
But as of tomorrow I will be raising my prices based on the cost of silver.
I wanted to give you a heads up, I wanted to extend to you a "shopping day" at the old prices before everything changes. Because I value YOU!
And, as always, I promise to give you the very best in unique, modern, handcrafted statement jewelry. Jewelry you will be proud to wear. Jewelry that tells a story about who you are. And quite frankly? I think you are amazing!
love, lisa

We think you are amazing too. Business is business. Just keep creating!

Well, you know how frugal I am, and you know that I hate the prices of anything to rise-but. . .if your prices are rising then there is no way we could expect you to continue to do the same work for less.
ReplyDeleteI know this must have been a hard decision for you to make. Thanks for sharing your reasoning with us.
