Before and After a story of hair

My middle daughter, Isabel, decided last year she wanted to grow out her hair to donate for Locks of Love. I was excited at her initiative, and wondered if she would stick with it. She has a TON of hair, I knew it would get hot and HEAVY!

Guess what?

It did!

There were weekly "measurings" and many times she thought of giving up and just getting it cut. But she stuck with it!

This past weekend she decided enough was enough and she was ready to "just do it". We made some phone calls, found a salon, found a different organization that donates the wigs instead of charging for them...and we were off!

ready to go!

final measuring!

no turning back...she looks slightly concerned!

TAH-DAH!
The end product. She flat ironed it....but you should see it dry naturally...gorgeous!
She took this of herself with her hair all packaged up....so cute!
And there it goes! Off to Pink Heart Funds.

I am so proud of her. To give up something that is so precious to many of us, for the benefit of others. I think we can all learn a lesson here...don't you?

Have you ever donated your hair? Do you know anyone else who has? I'd love to hear from YOU!

BE creative!

  2. It warms my heart to know that there's an organization that gives away the wigs. I am working on growing my hair out for a "locks of love" type of deal {another item on my 101 things to do in 1001 days} - and will definitely be keeping this link for this company.

When I went with my mom to get her wig, the price was definitely a HUGE concern for us (and she could afford it)... I can't imagine what the families that are battling cancer of any kind - and can't afford this.

  3. What a darling girl - and I love her new 'do! Thanks so much for this alternative source for hair donations to make wigs that are given to the people who need them.

I've donated my hair twice to Locks of Love - 14.5" the first time and 10" the second time.

I will keep Pink Heart Funds in mind. Growing your hair for someone else is such a simple and beautiful way to make a difference!

Check out this link. AND keep Children with Hairloss in mind. They provide wigs FREE to kids with cancer and other medical issues causing hairloss. Did you know that Locks of Love actually disposes of 50% of their donations. This is what led me to find this other organization that has an exclusive arrangement with DeVos Children's Hospital (and a couple of other major kids hospitals).

  6. I have a friend who grows her hair out yearly, then cuts it off to donate, then begins growing it again. I admire her immensely, as I don't know that I could ever be that dedicated and selfless - I like my short hair too much! My hair was super long when I was a kid, and the first time I got it cut I was able to donate it, and it really did feel great to do so. Kudos to your Isabel!
