Studio Tunes what I am listening to this week

The music in my studio is very eclectic. I truly enjoy music, all music. It speaks to my soul in a way nothing else will. When I'm creating the perfect melody will just carry me along with the right amount of inspiration. Sometimes, in my most frustrated moments, it's the music that that enables me to continue. That might sound silly, just another one of my *secret confessions*, but it is very true!

When my daughter Anneke is working with me, the choice is usually Country. Believe it or not...she has made a country music fan out of me.

One of my favorites? "I run to you", by Lady Antebellum. My second favorite from them is "Just a Kiss".

Growing up in New Jersey and close to New York City my parents were big fans of musicals, so we went "into the city" often to see the latest show. Standing in line at the TKTS Discount Booth, then the breath taking overwhelm of walking into those amazing theatres *shiver* it still excites me to think about it!

So I continue to LOVE show tunes. Something about the way they are sung, the blending of voices, it gives me chills. Last week I was actually listening to the Cinderella from 1957 with Julie Andrews, DON'T laugh! And then there is the original Mama Mia soundtrack...NOT from the movie, sorry Pierce Brosnan, but some things are a bit sacred!

A brand new favorite that is perfect for "creating" to is "A Fine Frenzy" - wow....I just love her voice. Ethereal, soothing, interesting...you'll just have to give them a listen!

And that is just my current favorites. I could go on and on about Classical music I love, or Opera even, and then there is my 80's music!

So what are your favorites? What are you listening to? If you introduce me to something new that I fall in love with, I just might send you a little jewelry gift. It's been known to happen!

BE creative!

  1. Music = obsession for me.
When my husband and I started dating, it involved many hours listening to music, cranking out different styles and introducing once another to our favorite tunes. He says I listen to obscure stuff… I say it’s just called being well versed!

I’m pretty traditional when it comes to country music… we’re both die-hard Taylor Swift fans, but also have a blend of Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, and that kind of good stuff.

Music is a mood thing for me, so there is my easy listening collection, which is probably more extensive than any other… Norah Jones, Missy Higgens, Ingrid Michaelson, Colbie Callat, Melody Gardot, Michael Buble, Sara Bareilles, Jim Brickman, Eva Cassidy…yeah, that’s my favorite stuff. Cup of coffee, good novel, smooth jazz or easy breezy tunes. It’s zen for me.

Then there is the totally embarrassing collection… Aly & AJ – “Into the Rush”, Miley Cyrus, Tiffany Giardina, JoJo… yeah, but it’s awesome and great workout music!
Favorite Christian artists are definitely Casting Crowns, Ana Laura, Francesca Battistelli, Meredith Andrews… they have some great stuff and really put feeling into their music. I’m not a fan of the stuff that just sounds like everybody else’s music.

On occasion I’ll crank out some opera-ish music, mainly some Josh Groban, Hayley Westenra, or Michael Amante.
I’m in love with all things Celtic so I also have the Celtic Tenors, Irish Tenors, Celtic Woman, and some of The Corrs. We had a pretty heavy blend of Celtic/Scottish music for our wedding, so it’s something really special to me. (plus I did Scottish country dancing for several years so I do admit to loving the bagpipes…)

And because I’m also a musical junkie, there is by beloved soundtrack collection which includes some of my favorites as: Wicked, Jane Eyre, Dirty Dancing, Singin’ In the Rain, You’ve Got Mail, Return to Me, and That Thing You Do.

Own City – “Ocean Eyes” is awesome for some pop/techno, Michelle Branch has some great stuff, and of course there’s always Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and those oldies-but-goodies.

I’m also obsessed with “power ballads” (cheesy, I know), so there is a bit of Guns & Roses and Aerosmith blended in (my ringtone is even “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing” ….)

There. I told you it would be long. Hope you were sitting down for all that.

  2. ok - so I'm maybe a bit boring... but I have to admit to loving 80's music...

but my favorite current is Group 1 Crew - "Forgive me"

Other stuff - Steve Green cause his music really inspired me when I was in a really bad place. Twila Paris - same thing :)

Hope you are having a great week!

  4. PS. Yesterday's music to accompany my workout on the StairMaster was the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. Someday I've gotta to see them in person.

  6. I love Julie Andrews! I actually have that movie on DVD, but honestly the movie is boring - I just love the songs. My silly love/guilty pleasure song right now is "That's How You Know" from Enchanted. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRYU4cqUAUs
