  1. This past weekend my son turned 10, so we spent it out of town just having a great time together. I love celebrating birthdays with him because he makes them fun.

    Happy Birthday girl!!

  2. What I love the most about birthdays is being able to do unique things that take thought and planning for people that will surprise them and let them know that they matter to me. Doesn't matter if it's my incredible wife or my awesome kids, friends, or co-workers. Get a charge out of pulling it off and then seeing/hearing about their reaction.

  3. Happy Birthday Lisa. I like other people's birthdays more than I like mine. I like being able to make them smile when I remember then when they least expect it.

Have a great climax to your celebration week, you deserve it, you do so much for all of us out here in cyber land. :-)

  6. I love my kids' birthdays the most! We have 5 kiddos and although we don't have huge parties anymore, their birthdays are so special because they remind me how extraordinarily blessed I am to have such beautiful kiddos. We always wake them up by singing happy birthday and celebrate with cake & ice cream surrounded by grandparents & their uncle, too. They have grown SO fast (oldest is almost 18 & youngest is nearly 7!) and each year their birthdays are sweet reminders to slow down and enjoy our time with them because these years are so fleeting.

  7. Loved the vlog! Leaving a comment - love that you're donating to the Humane Society! Now that I have kiddos, I'm really sappy about their birthdays. I love planning special days for them and get excited way in advance to celebrate them!

  8. Happy Birthday! I enjoy birthdays only for the power. It is the one day of the year that I get closest to my dream of having minions under my control...presents are nice too!

  9. Hmmm...what do I love about birthdays? Probably that it usually involves a nice meal out with the family or if I'm really lucky, the hubby!

    Happy birthday!

  10. Happy Birthday! I'm way behind in my feed reader and didn't even know [blushing]. My daughter's birthday is Sunday and I haven't bought her present yet! Obviously we have low key birthdays. :) We are in day 12 of homeschool. I started early because we will be moving to a new home this fall and I knew that would disrupt things.

I think you did a great job vlogging! I'm guessing that you are the messy creative type? When my desk gets too messy I can't write.

  11. NICE JOB with the vlog Lisa!! Hey, my favorite thing about birthdays, whether it be my own or family or friends,is the opportunity that it presents for that special one to be honored and celebrated just for being them!! We celebrate "birthday weekends" in our household and although exausting sometimes... it is a truly special time for the honoree. Nothing but attention for that special one and we all have very fond memories of birthdays, such that I will never dread one ... no matter how old I get!

  12. What's not to love about a birthday? The anticipation, the friends and family gathering for the celebration......but my personal favorite part is the cake. I love making the exact type of cake that my friends and family love and decorating it. The more candles, the better! Have a wonderful birthday, Lisa!

  13. Happy Birthday! I also had a birthday this week and I enjoyed spending the evening with my husband at our favorite restaurant and talking with family and friends.

  14. Happy Birthday Lisa!
My favorite birthdays are every "future" birthday that my parents have. My father is 83, eleven years older than any man in his family has ever lived. And my mother just turned 70. They are each the last surving members of their families. After having almost lost each of them due to cancer and diabetes related heart disease, I cherish every birthday I can celebrate with them. And I hope to have many more!

  15. Happy Birthday! My birthday usually gets overshadowed by the fact that its the month after Christmas and my husbands is the day before. So, I really make a point in whooping it up for my kids!

  16. Have a most wonderful birthday, Lisa. My birthday wish for you is that you continue with your wonderful work, and I know you will continue to inspire the creative side within each of us! I think birthdays are the one day a year when a person should be put on a pedestal and pampered, so I hope the family does that for you!!!

  18. I love the spoiling that happens on birthdays! When it's my kids, my husband, or someone else close to me, I love to be able to do the spoiling, and when it's mine - well, I certainly don't complain about getting spoiled. My older daughter turns four in November, and she's been talking about her birthday since May. I think she inherited her mamma's love of celebrating!

  19. My husband and I used to always do something special for each other for our birthdays. Over the years though, since having kids, we have started making big deals of our children's birthdays and not much of ours. But this January I wanted to do something big and special for my husband's 30th birthday, and I did!!!! I surprised him by flying him and I to Florida, 3 nights at a hotel, and taking him to Universal Studio's for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. He is a major Harry Potter fan. He was totally surprised and and loved the whole trip. He deserved it, he is a wonderful and loving husband and father. It will be a birthday we will never forget.

  20. I love birthdays! It's the one time a year to celebrate one special person whether it's myself or my family members - we celebrate birthday weeks too. My favorite birthday was when I took my whole family roller skating to celebrate - it was a total blast! Even my 3 yr old was on skates and lovin' the rink. Adorable. Thanks for your giveaway on YOUR birthday! Hope your party is special!

  21. i love celebrating my kids' birthdays. now that they are adults (or nearly so), our legendary "birthday dinners" have become a riotous, not-for-the-faint-of-heart affair.

for me, though, my preference is a present that took thought. write me a poem. draw me a picture. show me how you feel without the need to spend $.

(but if they insist on wanting to spoil me, i tell them to shop on lisa's etsy site... lol)

  22. Growing up my favorite thing about birthdays was that Mom would make whatever we choose for dinner, and we also got to pick out our dessert. This often included spending HOURS the weeks before my pouring over cookbooks and coming up with the perfect combination of foods to a super-special and yummy birthday dinner. Ahhh, good times. Now that I'm an "adult", my husband & I usually have to work on our birthdays and it becomes pretty much like "just another day." Sad and lame when I think about it. But Mom usually manages to schedule in a special dinner sometime during my birthday week and lets me pick out a favorite meal. yay for birthdays, and I hope yours is WONDERFUL!!

  23. I love celebrating the birthdays of my children. I carry on the tradition my mother started years ago of letting my girls choose their birthday dinner. Then we celebrate with a family party. It's so much fun letting my girls choose how they want their cake decorated and of course I love shopping for their birthday presents! Honestly, their birthdays are so much more fun and exciting than my own. It gives me a chance to relive the joy of childhood birthdays! :) Happy Birthday to You!!

  24. The thing I love about birthdays, (other than getting to claim a birthday month) is that it's one whole day out of the year where nobody can disagree with you; nobody can tell you you can't do something; it's one entire day to do and be exactly who you are or want to be.

  27. Loved the vlog, putting a voice to the face that go with the hands that make my favorite jewelry!

Love birthdays--any reason to celebrate. My favorite tradition we started when my oldest was little is making a big deal the day/night before by celebrating their last day to be ___. We review the highs and lows of the year, the blessings and surprises, etc. I also write a letter to each of my kids for their birthdays and even my teenage boys look forward to getting theirs. :)

    Happiest of birthday wishes, Lisa!

  28. My favorite thing about birthdays, is that I get to celebrate another year of life. Sometimes I take that for granted, but as I get older, I realize each year is a real gift from God, and truly a real reason to celebrate! I even celebrate my dog and 2 cats birthdays, and they wanted you to know that they love the idea of the donation to the humane society....;). Love the idea of taking the whole week for celebrating too...have a great time tomorrow.

  29. Great Vlog.... Happy Birthday weekend!!! ENJOY!
I love celebrating birthdays... mine and others. Oddly as a kid I wasn't much into cake, however I loved cantalope. My mom every year would buy several cantalopes, take the seeds out, and fill them with scoops of vanilla ice cream. Each half would have a candle... and EVERONE made a wish, something they wanted for me in my new year. We would all blow the candles out together. It was always so special to me to hear what others wished for me. And still every year around my birthday, I sit and enjoy half of cantalope filled with vanilla ice cream.

  30. Happy Birthday!!! I hope all your wishes come true!

Birthdays have always been a big deal in my family.
My Mom, who is 83, celebrates the whole month.
I would always have my girls parties at home with fun games and crafts when they were young.
I also love throwing surprise parties for my family and friends birthdays.

You are so generous to donate to the humane society and to have a give away, thank you!

    Celebrate in style!

  32. Happy Birthday Babe - love it that you are donating to charity on your birthday :) I love all birthday celebrations, no matter whose birthday it is, and the sense of happiness and fun that goes with them all!

My favorite thing about birthdays is that I get to eat cake - usually my DH hides all the sweet things in the house, and won't let me order cake in restaurants or coffee shops!

But the most memorable celebration was a huge party for a much-loved elderly friend's 80th birthday. It was amazing fun as the entire village came, with everyone aged 3 to 93 wearing "flapper" dresses or gangster outfits, and all the oldies danced till dawn to a jazz band :)

  34. I love celebrating my kids birthdays. They are both miracles from God and I am so thankful! We are currently on vacation in Playa del Carmen MX and celebrating my sons 7th bday (sept 2). We have spent the last 3 years down here on his bday. It has become a little tradition although next year no Mexico for us. ;-) Thank you for sharing your birthday with us this week.

  38. I love first birthday cake face! It's is the best when you are watching your 1 year old, who isn't quite sure what to do with this cake that is systematically set in front of them and all of their family is watching. And the difference between the children. Boston was very clean about the whole event. Ramsey not so much!

  39. Don't know why you would hate vlogging, you are so good at it. And photogenic!

What is best about birthdays? Well, it beats the alternative of not having them. Hmmm... can we start a tradition of celebrating death-days? OK, OK, that was bad, offensive, and would never catch on. But hey, even if I don't do anything else here, at least I have cost you another dollar donation to the humane society. :)

  40. Happy Birthday Lisa!! What I most love about birthdays is the time I get to spend with those around me. Since I live alone & don't usually see my family often, it's great to be able to spend some time with them, laughing, joking and creating new memories.

This year for my birthday I'm so excited because I'm going to be throwing myself a birthday party. I cannot wait. Maybe it's the anticipation I like best!

  41. HAPPY BIRTHDAY **AGAIN** LOVIE!!!

How much do I appreciate HEARING and SEEING you today? That's like a gift for me :). But I really wanna win so I'll play by the rules and tell ya something I like about birthdays. Can I share a few somethings?

    1) Because my youngest since last year has begun requesting TWO desserts, neither of them cake; he gets a Chocolate Eclair Dessert & Dirt Cups. And I let him eat 'em for breakfast.

    2) Because whoever is celebrating eats on our red Special Plate if we're home for dinner (they choose dinner in/out). It was a wedding gift so I love the tradition of it :).

    3) Birthdays are a celebration of LIFE! Which makes me happy. I'm thankful for every one....

  42. The thing I LOVE MOST is - a YEAR AGO Monday (Sept 5th) my mom celebrated her 87th birthday and on that SAME DAY, my little grandson was born! We celebrated my mom's bday with cake and ice cream, got a phone call from my daughter that she was in labor, hopped in the car, drove 3 hours to photograph (I'm a photographer) the birth of my 14th grandchild - I was in heaven!!!!! Cake and ice cream 'was good' but the birth of that little baby boy was amazing. SO, we will be celebrating 'with you' on Monday - my mom turns 88 and little Toren 1 year old!

BTW, what a GREAT contribution you are making to the Humane Society - one of my FAVORITE groups - I have (3) dog-kiddos!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LISA!!!!! Hugs!

  45. Happy Birthday friend!!! I am so stinking grateful for the love and creativity you have blessed me with. Reminds me daily to focus on Him! Birthdays... I love celebrating the person. It's not the stuff or the food even, though cake, frosting and ice cream help.. it's just so fun to open share gratefulness for the person you are celebrating! YOU! Happy birthday girl... I can't wait to hug your neck! Much love!

  48. I supah-love birthdays and each person gets to choose what we do. My husband and one of my kids are both introverts and they prefer to keep things low-key. But the rest of us love the birthday plate and crown/tiara and games and ice cream. Just this year we did birthday parties with friends for the first time. It was fun, but I kinda like the simplicity of just a family fun day.

  49. Yay for donating to the Humane Society! (big fan of the great William Wilberforce) OK...I like my birthday more as I get older, because I have decided that you get as many days as your age to celebrate! This actually reflects the progressed chart in astrology (a-day-for-a-year). I just had my b-day at the end of August and I am still celebrating for over a month more because I am sooooooo old! See, there are some perks which come with age. Happy Birthday Lisa. Party on!!!!
    Love, Elizabeth

  50. I think it's great that you're donating to the Humane Society! One thing that I love about birthdays in my family is that presents aren't a big deal; instead, we try to spend as much time together that week as we can doing the things that we love most. I was shocked when I heard that people got more than one present for their birthdays! For us, it was choose your quality time, choose your birthday dinner and cake flavor, and one present to open after dinner. I wouldn't have had it any other way :)

  51. Happy Birthday Lisa! I had the big 5-0 two weeks ago. I did not 'love' that birthday, but I do love celebrating the birthdays of friends and family. It's a great chance to remember the past and be grateful for health and honoring those special people in our lives.

  53. I'm at my Mom's so don't want to sign out of her google. lol

My favorite birthdays are from my childhood in Illinois. I would always say 'Can we go to the Four Seasons Indoor Miniature Golf?!?!?!?' lol It was wonderfully air conditioned for this allergy sufferer. :) So, we'd do that (all 18 holes) and then have pizza and birthday cake made by my Mom. Sometimes we'd even go to Showbiz Pizza place. Good times!

  54. Happy Birthday Lisa!!

What I love most about birthdays is spending time with friends and family. I actually like other people's birthday more than mine because it is a great way to show you care for them. I love being creative with gifts - things that aren't generic and show thought and effort. I love making memories with people and birthdays are a GREAT way to do that!

Have a great weekend, you deserve a fantastic end to your birthday week! Thanks for your support of the animals too! Your donation will go a long way!! :)

  55. This is even more fun! I was going to wish you a Happy Birthday over on facebook, but a chance to win some of your jewelry and a guarantee that my comment will help your local humane society?... double win! :) Happy Birthday!

I like birthdays because they are a great reason to get away from the ordinary and usual... either to do something special for a loved one, or to treat myself to whatever I've been waiting for - a fun night out, that dress that was a little bit out of my fun budget, or a night out of town. Marking another year is the perfect way to do something special, and I like that.

  57. I love birthdays for the fun of picking out gifts and watching the sheer delight on my kids' faces when they open them. And I love ice cream cake on my birthday...One Baskin & Robbins was always a favorite as a kid and my husband indulges my inner child with one every year!

Hope you have a wonderful big celebration! You can celebrate all month if you want to! That would be ok with me! :)

And BTW- what a great cause! Thanks for giving back! We got our silly 3 year old Yellow Lab from a rescue group and the Humane Society does awesome work!

  59. Happy Birthday Lisa!

I just love celebrating birthdays. It allows you to have an opportunity to focus on yourself. Its not often that folks take the time out of their day to do something for themselves... especially busy moms who are often focused on others often. Its important to allow yourself a special day here and there ;)
