Boy bands. Three Leaf Clovers. And a One Direction giveaway.

Boy bands. I mean really. Why do we flock to this stuff?

Is it the sappy lyrics? The dancing? Their dashing good looks?
We don't even care if they can't play an instrument...or even if they lip sync. We just like to watch them...and sing along!

One Direction is NO exception to this boy band craze. They truly have it all!

Emerging on the to music scene as a product of the British sensation X-factor and our beloved Simon Cowell. These boys from across the pond took the world by storm.

I'll admit it. I'm a sucker for boy bands. Remember New Edition - early 80's when Bobby Brown was still cool. I'm pretty sure I wasn't allowed to listen to their music back then...but I have vague recollections of Candy Girl.

NKOTB - do I even need to write it out? Those boys!

And the Backstreet Boys. I mean seriously...Hello! "as long as you love me" {{swoon}}

Lastly, no boy band discussion would be complete without a look at n'Sync. Now I'll admit, I was already married when they hit the scene, but "the draw" was still there. I remember getting up for middle of the night feedings and hoping to find replays of their Disney concerts on TV. True story. Sad. But true.

But back to the boy band at hand...One Direction. These guys really CAN sing. And they actually play real instruments!

I had an opportunity back in July to design a three clover necklace (JUST like the one Niall, from the band, wears) for Tiger Beat magazine. What a huge honor. And so much fun!

In celebration of the new One Direction album released this week, I'm giving away THREE of my Niall necklaces.

  1. I was a huge nkotb fan back in the day. No shame.

(And my oldest is the biggest one direction fan - I admit, I turn up their stuff in the car sometimes when no kids are with me.)

  2. I was a huge New Kids fan!!! I remember crying to my dog all night because my parents wouldn't let me go to their concert.(haha) I still know all of the words to all of their songs....and I think Donnie is still my favorite. ;)

  3. I do not have a favorite "boy band" but I have teenagers that would have One Direction at the top of their list. ;)

  9. I was never in to the "boy bands" growing up but as a 41 year old man I recall playing Backstreet Boys in the car on the request of a few dates.

  10. I never really get into artists. I'm more of a song lover - I don't care who sings it, as long as it's good!

But...I was in college and was cleaning out my car, and I found it: a Backstreet Boys cassette tape. (yes, cassette!). I didn't even remember that I had it, but it was in my car, which means I liked it enough to listen to it in the car. I popped it in, and yeah, I sang along with every song. (Backstreet's back...alright!)

It was a shocking revelation. To be in college, and a backstreet boys fan. It's funny, because I don't remember buying it. I remember making fun of the boy bands much more than admitting I liked some (any) of their songs. But, there it was, evidence to the contrary. Oh, well. I got over the shock pretty quick...I liked just enough songs on the tape to keep it. :)

  48. "Boy band geek, coming through!" I'm in love with One Direction's music...catchy, fun, and an overall great sound! I admit to grooving out to Backstreet Boys & N'Sync in the day though. ;) Love this necklace -- such a fun giveaway!

  51. My favorite boy band is One Direction. I love them because they have amazing music. They are all really cute.I think its really awesome how humble they are. Whenever they are on tv I put it on the calender and tune in. I almost skipped drivers training to watch them on ellen...but alas my mother said "you aren't skipping!" If you follow me on twitter you'd know I don't tweet about anything other than one direction, hoping one day they will see that tweet and follow me. I'd even settle for a retweet or favorite. I'm Haleigh, and I'm a crazy fan girl.

  52. I went to the Paul McCartney concert at Safeco Field here recently and I was struck by the fact that he played 38 songs for us. He was able to span a 50 + year career, pulling from the Beatles, Wings and an amazing solo career. The concert was amazingly entertaining but it left me wondering, One Direction, they've got like one song. What kind of concert will they put on? Sing the same song 38 times? Oh wait, that's just how it works on the radio so all their fans will think it's normal.

Don't get me wrong, I really like "You Don't Know You're Beautiful," and I love the message that it portrays but I think they'll go the way of most and be one or two hit wonders and in 20 years, they'll have a reunion on some show like "America's Got Talent," and look like a bunch of pathetic old guys trying to look cool. Sir Paul didn't have to try to look cool, he invented it.
