Keys. Have you ever paid attention to how many keys you have in your life. Keys to your car, keys to your house, keys to the office, keys to your locker. Keys. Each unique. Each with a purpose.
But also, incredibly easy to lose.
Keys. They all open something. Sometimes you may find a key. Maybe someone hands you a key. I'll be honest, I'm intrigued at the possibility. I've taken those unknown keys and tried to force them into locks, manipulate the space...but funny, they just don't fit.
I believe life will hand us many keys. It's like a mass juggling of metal. So many choices and decisions. Which key to choose? What doors do they open?
I also firmly believe God is a master craftsman at key making. He has a plan. He gives us the keys. But He still allows us to choose. He wants us to look to Him for direction. But the choice is still ours.
We have been given a new set of keys.
They are pretty. They are exciting. But they only open doors in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
We are confident that the keys are ours. All six of us are in agreement to make the trip and try them out. But, other than knowing that's what we are supposed to do, there's a lot of unmarked doors down there!
The details? My husband accepted a position in Fort Wayne...LAST WEEK! Their schools are already in session. This was the year ALL my small people were going to transfer from homeschool to "real" school. The school we chose is MASSIVE {{gulp}}. We move on Tuesday. They start school on Wednesday. I'm still not sure where we are going to live.
{{deep breath}}
But. These new keys? We know where they came from, so we don't fear the doors that we open. At this point we are looking at it as an adventure. A new opportunity.
"not all those who wander are lost..." J.R.R. Tolkien
I made this necklace (of course I did!) It's to be my confident reminder. It holds a key. For those who wander. For those on an adventure. It's a limited edition, there are only 9.
Oh yes, and TODAY is my birthday. And since I like to give things away.

I think this necklace is befitting of a new adventure!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!!! What an exciting adventure you will be taking. I like the idea of the keys being used metaphorically. I had never thought of it in that way. I hope that everything goes well with the new school and your husband's job.

Hi, I have just joined your mailing list: barbie F. (beforeverlovely). I can't believe you are moving, and your kids will go to school the next day...you all are so brave!
ReplyDeleteI grew up the daughter of an Air Force man. My brother and I were "the new kids" a lot. And some of our schools were pretty dang big. What helped both of us was finding a "thing" that put us in a smaller group of kids with the same interests. For me, it was music; for my brother, it was soccer. It was less intimidating to try to make connections that way. Does that make sense?
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you and your family as you set out on this new path!
Embracing it is the best way. It'll allow you to be open to every curveball that may be thrown at ya'll during this transition. Wishing you guys a stress-free and pleasurable move! Happy Birthday!!

ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful necklace and it's exactly what I've been searching for. Sometimes even if we're not moving away from the comfort of our home or embarking on a new adventure, we need that special key to open closed doors to the life we've been living.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to your family with the new adventure and the new home!!

Happy Birthday. Praying for you and hour family as you venture out and use the keys you have been give to open new doors. Praying for your kids as they attend school and experience the school system. We will be going through something similar in about two years when my husband retires from the Navy. For the first time we will have to look for a job, my hubby joined when he was 17. We would like to move back home but we will see what keys God hands us. It is exciting, yet terrifying. But fear not, God is in control. I have to remind myself often.
