What is it about the anticipation of a birthday? I mean...what is it in all actuality?
Another year OLDER!
The days of being excited about hitting that "next" age are long gone. Now it's just a passage of time.
Another year OLDER!
The days of being excited about hitting that "next" age are long gone. Now it's just a passage of time.
Yet...
There is something exhilarating about a day dedicated to only YOU. It is the day you came into the world. And that my dear is worth celebrating! Why, because YOU are so very special.
Birthday's are a REALLY big deal around our home. Not because there are a million gifts and parties. But because we make the effort to make the birthday person feel as special as they are. My husband makes dozen of goofy signs that he hangs around the house. There are streamers and balloons and confetti. It truly is a celebration.
But THIS birthday post is about me. *ahem* September is a flurry of birthday activity for our family. There are three of us that share the month, well four, if you count one of our dogs! Needless to say, we live in a sea of streamers for a month!
So how do I really like to celebrate?
By giving you the chance to party with me. Jewelry style.
By giving you the chance to party with me. Jewelry style.
I created this ring for myself last week. A simple modern setting, showcasing my gorgeous birthstone...a sapphire. This stone is lab grown, making it much more affordable for everyone. I like that. But what I like even more is giving one away to you!
Now you're listening...right?
How do you enter? Let's make this easy...
- Leave a comment below telling me how you want to celebrate your next birthday!
Want an extra entry?
- Join our Weekly Gem newsletter - then let me know you signed up in the comments below! (our gem readers are already getting special privileges and extra entries just for being our friend...it's a pretty sweet deal!
- "LIKE" our Facebook Fan page - then let me know you are part of the fun in the comments below!
Just make sure you leave your email in the comments so I can contact you when you win!
Contest ends on Friday, August 31 at midnight EST. But don't worry...there's more celebrating to be had. But you'll have to be a Weekly Gem reader to find out! *snicker* I like being all tricky and stuff. Hey, it is MY birthday after all.
Good luck, and thanks for helping me celebrate. It's MUCH more fun this way!

What fun! Happy birthday to you!
ReplyDeleteI haven't started thinking about my next birthday yet ... my husband turns 30 in two weeks, so I've been too busy prying birthday wishes from him to think about mine in March! All I know for sure is that there will be trifle involved ... and possibly crepes. (Yes, I start planning my birthday menu before anything else.) Mmm ...
I am not as big on the "sweet treats" but my husband has cooked or taken me out for filet mignon and garlic mashed potatoes which I LOVE! :) I'm more of a meat and potatoes girl. :) Love this sapphire ring-hope you have a wonderful birthday!
ReplyDeleteI've got a September birthday, too! I'd love to have a quiet dinner out with my husband
ReplyDeleteLove the ring! For my next birthday (coming soon!) I want a long family hike and Two Amy's pizza on the way home! Sounds dreamy to me. Hope your birthday is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Lisa. To me, it's a treat to spend time with friends and loved ones. Those times remain way after the last crumb is eaten. Cheers and happy happy!

ReplyDeleteI want to have a dinner party for some of my closest friends. With LOTS of chocolate desserts. And wine, because who doesn't love chocolate and wine? :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Lisa!
Oh, my word, Lisa...my next birthday is a BIG milestone one. Mercy.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to it with anticipation and a little curiosity. I mean, I don't quite feel my age and I can't believe it's *this* close.
You'd think I'd be planning what I'm doing already, but since we're living between two countries I'm not sure where I'll even be in March. Soooo, let's just say I'll be doing something MEMORABLE...
And I hope there's a sapphire ring on my finger :).

ReplyDeleteJust celebrated my birthday! Got to spend it camping with my family! Loved it :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Lisa!
ReplyDeleteMy next birthday is a milestone birthday...UGH! I would love to spend my birthday someplace warm and sunny. And I'm a pretty traditional kind of girl so chocolate cake and ice cream is always a good choice for me!
So enough about me...it's almost your day so ENJOY!
Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI just had my 29th. Looking at 30 next year :) I am thinking Pontoon Boat Party Barge...friends and family on the water!
Happy birthday!!! My next birthday will be the 2nd anniversary of my 30th, so a friend of mine is planning a toddler birthday party for me. She just turned 36 (shh, don't tell her I said so!) and had a hard time with it, so I planned a kids party for her. We even had big girl juice bags (the frozen kind made by Daily's that come with the alcohol mixed in!)
ReplyDeleteMy last birthday was truly awful - so I've decided that 36 HAS to be better... so, even if I have to throw my own party, I will make the day special by spending time with my daughters and friends... and perhaps there will be margaritas. ;)
ReplyDeleteI want to celebrate my next birthday by sleeping in and spending it with my family.
ReplyDeleteI just finished my birthday...but traveling to Arizona to see a friend was pretty awesome. So i am thinking that would be fun to do this next birthday...traveling to Montana to "meet" my blogging bff.
ReplyDeletelife with four boys at gmail dot com
And you know I like you on fb...and am your gem. ;)
I turn 33 in March and I would love to spend it fabric shopping and hanging with my family. Cake and sangria should be involved too!
ReplyDeleteFor my next birthday, I plan to celebrate it somewhere else. This past year has been awful so next year I plan to head out on a vacation even if it's not far away.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, my sister and I will be spending the big 4-0 in Paris in 2018.
And I signed up for your newsletter.
Happy Mutual Birthday! Turning 63 this year, mostly very thankful to have another year...I love to have a yummy pizza, followed by anything dark chocolate! I'm already following the newsletter and fb page. I think we have the most beautiful birthstone of all, love blue! Many blessings! Nancy
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to celebrate is with our famous birthday dinners with all the kids. The convetsation(I use that term loosely ... Lol) is highly irreverent and hilarious. Love it.

I plan to spend my birthday this October at Blue Mounds State Park in Minnesota.
ReplyDeleteKristin Troska
What a beautiful ring. Thank you for the chance to win. Peace, Kristin Troska
ReplyDeleteI will be celebrating my birthday (next Sat) by just spending time with my sweet family. And hopefully with a cake from Whole Foods. :) But I will begin the celebration the day before with a trip alone (well, the baby will be with me) to The Strawberry Patch barn sale to look for some vintage/upcycled goodies!
ReplyDeleteI just looked and my next birthday falls on a Sunday so I'd like to celebrate it with church and then grab a lunch and head out to GH for a picnic and walking the boardwalk.
ReplyDeleteHappy early birthday. You sure know how to celebrate! You know I'm following you on all forms of possible communication. Next we'll start sending smoke signals. :) Lisa~
ReplyDeleteMy next bday is not until April and then I hit the big 51. I don't know what I want to do because normally I pretty much live "inside the box." Maybe this year I need to step outside my comfort zone and do something "outside the box." I don't know what that is yet! Family is important to me so as long as my husband and girls are with me on that special day, I'm a happy girl. I did sign up for your newsletter and am a fan on FB! Happy Birthday to you!
ReplyDeleteI always remember your birthday because it is one day after my son's. Good Virgos that you are :) I want to go out to eat and a very fancy restaurant and not worry for ONE SECOND that it's too expensive for my birthday. I wonder if that's possible?
ReplyDeleteI love spending it with my family, even if it's just at home curled up on the couch. My birthday is always around Mother's Day, last year it was ON Mother's Day so it makes it more special to have my kiddos celebrate with me.
ReplyDeleteI am also subscribed to your newsletter!! racheldawson79@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteAND, I'm a fan on Facebook!! Hope you have a lovely birthday!! racheldawson79@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI want to celebrate my next birthday doing something FUN with my family. I turn 39 next month. The summer has flown by so fast, and we haven't done the kinds of fun, together activities I've hoped for.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I both turn 40 within two months of each other and we are looking into doing something big, and a bit out of our comfort zone. We can be homebodies, but just started having the urge to see more of the world. I am a nervous flier, too, but I think we are going to take the plunge and go to Italy for our next birthdays. I think milestone birthdays require a little something extra!
ReplyDeleteps~ already a fB friend and will sign up for the newsletter. My husband (we live down the street from you) got me one of your very cool bracelets for Mother's Day and I love it!

This birthday coming up (just two days after yours) I am really aware of where I was last year and all that passed during the last 12 months. I am setting my intention for the coming year to own my time, my life and speak out for who I am and what I want. Big girl stuff!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful ring! For my birthday, a celebration with my family followed by a getaway with my hubby would be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Lisa!
ReplyDeleteNext year I want to spend a quiet day at home with just my family, just hangin' out. And I'd love my fave birthday treat--Rocky Road ice cream, too!
My burthday is in July so it's usually quite hot and I have always loved a nice quiet day with my loved one and a yummy ice cream pie using a peanut butter, rice crispie crust for dessert. ~ Scott Burkle
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!
ReplyDeleteSo my b-day is in December - and last year was amazing. My DH surprised me with dinner out (Twisted Rooster) with friends! It was so much fun, we talked and laughed and ate and talked and laughed some more. So this year, that would be what I would want again! Dinner out ~ and surprise me with what friends come along!
I like to spend my birthday playin with my dogs and spending time with family. The best is when my grandpa takes me fishing in cape cod! We catch 50 pound fish. There is nothing like being on the ocean.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping that on my next birthday I will be celebrating not only making it another trip around the sun, but my freedom from a horrible marriage!! I imagine I will be out with friends and getting my laugh back!
ReplyDeleteJust spending time with my family and friends is always my favorite way to spend my birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you!
ReplyDeleteOn February 27, 2013, will turn the big 40!
I will actually have school that night...but I am hoping that someone who loves me will throw me a huge party!!!
I love birthdays also! My boss just forwarded me an email for a dinner deal at Brennan's (which I love)....so I'm hoping for some Matagorda Bay shrimp and grits, jumbo lump blue crabcakes, maybe some bananas Foster. We only have birthdays once a year!
ReplyDeletehathaway.jamie@gmail.com
A train ride and a Blackhawks game with Leisa, the best gift I have ever been blessed with.
ReplyDeleteUsually I spend my birthday with the family. We do something fun like dinner out, movies, family game night. This year is my 40th so I am going to Austin with my girlfriend for a long weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhoops forgot to include my email--bgorton@chartermi.net
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Lisa! My birthday is next Thurs. the 6th. I have to work late, so I'll have to celebrate with everyone at work . My kids won't be around for another week but my husband with think if something special. At least I hope so. I always say we have a whole birthday week, so mine starts this Sunday:) Yeah!!! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteJulie
You're so kind to celebrate your birthday with a gift for one of us!
ReplyDeleteOn my next birthday I want to go out for breakfast, take my kids to a movie and relax with a glass of wine and a book at home, while my husband grills me flank steak and asparagus.
Come to think of it, why wait? Maybe that's my plan for Sunday!
Oooooooohh!!!!!!!! Lisa I LOVE birthdays....anybody's birthday! Our family shares your excitement as we go a little over the top over birthdays, too. Well done Lehman's!
ReplyDeleteOkay. Here's how I want to spend my next birthday....
June 4, 2013 would find me taking a walk in the morning with weather warm but "Michigan Crisp" in the air. I would arrive home from my walk to find some of my most favorite worshipful people in my living room, where we would spend an undetermined amount of time worshipping God together. *Aaaaaah. From there I and my family - - and my mom who has never seen mountains - - would somehow be instantaneously transported to Telluride CO. Next my mom would be back home (because she wouldn't enjoy the next parts), and my family and I would have coffee at a cool coffee shop in Telluride. From there, we would all hike to Coronet Falls together and no one would get hurt climbing. After our hike, we would find ourselves cleaned up (instantaneously) and having lunch at a place called Rustico's. After lunch, we would ride the Gondola to Mountain Village except it wouldn't be Mountain Village it would be Grand Rapids. I would have some *afternoon alone time* with my amazing hubby. ;) For dinner, my father-in-law would show up with my mother-in-law and make perfect shish-ka-bobs on the grill. My dad would eat with us. To cap the festivities, all of my sisters and their families, my parents, my in-laws, some of my favorite friends, and my precious little family would all have Bill Knapp's cake with Hershy's mint moosetrack's ice cream and have a bonfire at my parent's (former) cabin. God would give me a personalized psalm just before midnight, and I and my family would rest peacefully as we are readied for all the next year holds. All the while, I would be wearing the amazing ring you created.
I am a fellow Sapphire fan!! My birthday is in 2 weeks and I'd love to celebrate with friends and family with a drink in one hand and fork diving into a fabulous piece of cheesecake!

ReplyDeletemy next birthday is in May, and i will no doubt be spending time with my family...my girls love birthday parties and it will most likely involve pink cupcakes- not my favorite, but theirs, which ultimately, is what matters!
Hi Lisa, most years I would say that I would spend my birthday doing my favorite thing in the world - riding my horse of course! However since my birthday this year falls on Thanksgiving I guess I'll be spending it with the turkeys - the one on the table and the ones in my family lol.
ReplyDeleteCarol Tokarz
I would like to have a birthday where I was celebrated all day like that. :-) It's been a long time since much effort was put into my day. And now, with my baby's birthday the day after mine? Probably ain't never gonna happen. hahahaa
ReplyDeleteOh, hello. I'd love to celebrate my birthday wearing this ring, that's for sure. Other than that... my ideal birthday would involve me going to visit girl friends in Canada. I miss them very much.

ReplyDeleteI have a birthday coming up in October and I'm planning a bowling party for me and some friends with some catered food at my house after!
ReplyDeleteOn my next birthday in December I look forward to spending the day with my husband and two furbabies. Opening a nice piece of jewelry (the ring is fantastic-you have great talent) and or a new power/hand tool that I have been wanting, then going to a nice place to eat a fantastic meal with my husband.

ReplyDeleteFor my next birthday (June 2013), my family and I are going to a small island here in Alaska called Prince of Wales. We are going to go over to a native villages and help build a church (hopefully! We are raising funds for it now!) I'm so very excited and what a great way to spend my birthday month!!
The ring wouldn't be a bad present at all for the birthday! I admire your work and would love to own another ring of yours ( my wedding band is one of your "I am my beloved's" ring that we got for our anniversary!)

My next birthday will be my first as a WIFE (feels weird to say that). Technically,I'm not married yet, but I will be in November! I found this contest after purchasing a cool gift from you, for my soon- to -be husband. I can't wait to celebrate my birthday with him, probably just on the farm, camping and enjoying each others' company! (we've lived in separate cities for a long time... while I've been in school!)
ReplyDeletecarolinavenditti@gmail.com
Happy happy birthday! My next one is almost a year away so I'm not sure *exactly* how I'd want to celebrate. But I know I want to be surrounded by my family as always. And it's never a birthday unless our birthday banner is hanging up and there's cake on the counter and ice cream in the fridge. =)

My cake is ordered already..I tend to think wayyy ahead:o) My son just found an app on his Ipad, so me and some of my more goofier friends are gonna lip sing to songs while he edits them and makes a video..it's so much fun. I like to celebrate my birthday going out with my friends for dinner and drinks. As I get older though, I find that they aren't as anticipated :)
ReplyDeleteI really don't need much on my birthday. I just like to be pampered a little (massage, facial or pedi) and get lots of love from my family.
ReplyDeleteFB fan!!
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa! Happy Birthday to you!! I also think birthdays are special and not because of the gifts you give or receive, but rather in how you are made to feel special or how you make others feel special. I have loved birthdays since I was a kid waiting to open my presents and still love birthdays. I will turn 36 years old on January 10th. My next birthday will be a celebration...not because I know what I will do on that specific day....but because of how I know I will be treated by others. I will receive gifts, get plenty of hugs, receive homemade presents from my children along with a sweet card and jewelry from my husband. Of course there is Facebook and the birthday messages will fill my page. Do I love these things...of course...without a doubt, however I will celebrate January 10th as MY DAY...the day that God chose for me to come into this world...to experience all of the wonderful things I have for the last 36 years. I realize every day I wake up is a blessing...I have a loving husband, beautiful twins, a great job where I work with wonderful people and I thank God each day for these things....but on my day, January 10th...I think about these precious gifts a little more...so you ask what I want to do on my birthday...sit at my dining room table with my family, talking about our days at work and school as we enjoy brownies. Mindy Horman...mhorman@edzone.net (I did sign up for the weekly newsletter and ordered Ms. Jessie's Pillow Soft Hair...and I love it...my hair has curls like yours....thanks!)
ReplyDeleteDear me. My Birthday falls the day AFTER my husband's birthday every year. So being on his special day he constantly reminds me that for that one day he is TWO years older than I am. 3/10/81 to 3/11/82 for his and my own birthday!! That being said, our families always have celebrated them together. Some year [maybe next year] ON my birthday I want to celebrate just me for once. I love my family and my husband, but for once I want it to be about MY day. Flowers, a sparkling jewel...mimosas in bed with cards and no cleaning for the whole day! I want to have the afternoon to go somewhere I could ride horseback [it's been 6 years since I rode horseback!] and then end the night with a romantic dinner under the stars [in March it's usually too cold!] with just friends and family. The kids [all 4 of them] in bed. Dinner would be something new and exciting. [[sighs]]

Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteHappy early birthday! Right now I'm trying to plan my daughter's 5th birthday in Sept? Any suggestions? But enough about her. I'm a late February birthday who happens to be a CPA...So I am usually squeezing my b'day in between doing taxes. Fun, fun !! So for my next birthday, I would love have an evening of fun with my family, just enjoying not working.

I love all your jewelry...! wouldn't mind winning just one of your jewelry... Fingers crossed...! carolenehastings@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI hope to spend my next birthday with my family and friends, eating great food and having a great time being together! :)

My next birthday is the same as your next birthday ... Sept 3rd! I will spend it celebrating everything that has happened in my life, in my last FORTY years. I will celebrate the bad & the good ... all of the things that have brought me to this point, to the point of turning forty, to the point of starting over & living a life I love. That's the general ... specifically: going to a huge neighborhood block party, eating delicious picnic food, listening to a community brass band, savoring some wonderful cake & ice cream.
